A few weeks ago, we shared with you the WINK News story about garage break-ins. Last night NBC-2 News’ Rachel Pierce did a story on the other dangers of the garage.
All this news about garage door dangers might scare some people. The truth is that as long as you take care of your garage and remember to treat it with the respect it deserves, your garage door will be safe.
The garage is the largest opening in the house. Most garage doors, especially if you have upgraded to Miami Dade Hurricane approved doors, are heavy. It has a lot of moving parts, and those parts need regular maintenance. Both of our manufacturers, LiftMaster Operators and Clopay Garage Doors, and the International Door Association recommend annual inspection and maintenance from a qualified professional. This maintenance should include: checking all the moving parts, checking the tension and limits, looking for general wear and tear, and verifying the sensors are working properly.
Especially, if you have children, remember to treat the large often heavy object with respect. Teach children not to play on or around the garage door. Teach them that remotes and wall buttons are not toys. Better yet, place them so they are out of reach of small children.
Common sense will keep your garage a safe place for everyone dig this.
