If you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or any other social media, you have probably noticed that we are active in our community. Much of what we do is quietly behind the scenes, but some of it is very public. What is the basis of how we choose which organizations to support?
The primary criterium is whether this is an organization that our team member can relate to. Therefore, we support the local BIAs and their charitable organizations. Since we are in people’s homes every day, this seems like the best place for us to give back in the community. This year for the first time ever, we are the corporate sponsor of a Habitat for Humanity house in Lee County. We are also one of the sponsors of the Women Build houses for Habitat for Humanity Lee County.
Another area where we find a need that touches our hearts are our military service members and veterans. This is especially near and dear to my heart as my father is an Army Veteran. I was a Navy wife for many years and a Navy mom for more. Several of our team members are veterans, and others have family members who are currently deployed or veterans. If you walk into our showrooms on any given Friday, you will see many of our team members wearing red. Remember Everyone Deployed. It is a simple show of support for every service member deployed.
Earlier this year, we did a cell phone collection in our showrooms. The outpouring of support from the community was overwhelming. We ended up sending over 500 cell phones in. That means over 500 hours of talk time our troops received. Although you can drop off your phones any time in either showroom, we will be doing another drive before the end of the year.
In celebration of Halloween, one of our favorite holidays, we are teaming up with Soldier’s Angels in Treats for Troops. If you are like me and buy WAY too much candy for Halloween, don’t ruin your diet and eat it, instead, bring it into one of our showrooms. We will be collecting it and sending it to Soldier’s Angels, who will ship it out to our troops.
